At the age of 15 I was an obese teenager. I weighed 285 pounds. I graduated high school at 180 pounds. Exercise and fitness changed my life and it has been a huge part of it since.
I began my career in fitness as an instructor at Gold's Gym where I was exposed to many different bodybuilding philosophies and strategies.
I transferred schools and began to work at the Fitness Factory where I became the Head Trainer. I got certified through the ACE and began my own personal training business on the side "GET FIT."
When I graduated college, I really wanted to work with young people to share with them my positive experience and to help them increase their self-esteem through fitness and exercise. So with my Physical Education degree and my experience with sports and weight training, I began teaching and coaching.
My first teaching position was a regular P.E. class. I enjoyed it, but that was not what I wanted to do. I wanted to teach students how to exercise, not just play games. So I found the Strength and Conditioning position at CHS where I am currently employed. Watching these young people work hard to improve their bodies and self esteem is a fantastic reward. They train in the weight room three days per week and engage in aerobic conditioning and agility training the other two days.
Working with as many teenagers as I do in a day (sometimes as many as 175) I have developed strong communication and motivational techniques suited for all personalities and abilities. During the summer I design and manage the the strength program for the football team, supervising 90-100 players in the weight room at the same time.
My hobbies include weight training, hiking, running, wakeboarding, snowboarding, wrestling, flying planes. I am 6'1" and weigh 265 pounds. I am in strong physical condition and I am 34 years old.
I am very passionate about fitness. My goal is to make exercise a fun and exciting experience so people will make it a part of their lifestyle. My experience and knowledge allows me to be effective with all age groups and ability levels and to communicate and motivate those around me.
