Irene Valmas: B. Kin. (Hons.), C.P.T., Cert. Pilates Instructor, Cert. Yoga Instructor, Golf Conditioning Specialist
My journey in the field of Health and Wellness began in 2002 after I was in a car accident, and subsequent a four-year rehabilitation program. What was to follow was a discipline shift in my studies from Political Science to Kinesiology and Health Science in an effort to better understand my injuries, and my desire for full recovery. My rehabilitation process took me all over the spectrum of the recovery process from chiropractics, to physiotherapy, to massage, and even light therapy. I was in the hands of a well respected and highly experienced medical team but it wasn't enough, I knew there was something missing. Reflecting on my disposition, I turned to the knowledge I had acquired from my undergraduate studies and began participating in strength training and yoga. Through my disposition of hard work, perseverance, and optimistic attitude, I began to find relief from chronic back pain. My progress felt nothing short of amazing, and as I became more flexible and stronger, for the first time in four years my daily function had recovered and I was able to work again.
Empowered by my experiences I began to seek out new and innovative routines and disciplines to help people reach the state of wellness that I have come to value greatly. It was my exposure to Pilates that I was truly fascinated by what I perceived as being an intelligent form of exercise in all types of Matwork, Reformer and equipment training. Since this “enlightenment”, I have never looked back.
My mission is simple: to help one achieve their optimal health by maximizing their physical training with the integration of all modalities and specializing in the core kinetic systems with the focus of Pilates. You can often hear me describing Pilates as an “excellent way to tune your body and allow you to run more efficiently in ones rigorous physical training and daily activities”. Lets face it, with today’s daily work and family life demands, we owe it to ourselves, and our loved ones to be offering our very best, in the boardroom or on the field. This heightened state of homeostasis is what I offer through my commitment to client education and its application to daily life.
Pilates is a focus on core strengthening, postural and support muscles, balance and flexibility. All of these aspects of health play a crucial role in our day-to-day requirements and sports such as golfing, skiing, and tennis. My continual dedication to meet the needs of my clientele have prompted me to complete training in workshops for Golf Conditioning on the Reformer, and Matwork which I am ecstatic to bring to you this season!
