In 2002, I began my fitness career as a cardio kickboxing instructor with a certification through AFAA. Once I'd started teaching, the bug bit me and I began to look at other formats. I added a primary group exercise certification, also through AFAA, in 2004, followed shortly thereafter with training for indoor group cycling. I have a great group of cycle participants at my home club that have been with me for five years, and we're all still having a blast! In the fall of 2006, I certified as a personal trainer with ACE in order to further my understanding of the body and safe program design. Additionally, I completed my Master's in education (M.Ed.) at George Mason University in January 2007, deepening my understanding of instructing to people with different ability levels and backgrounds. After the birth of my second child in February 2007, I began the process of becoming a Strollercize certified instructor, to teach postpartum fitness in a stroller-based workout. My training included one-on-one instruction with the founder of Strollercize, Elizabeth Trindade. I have taught a stroller fitness class for moms at a local mall for 2 years. In August 2009, I decided to spice things up by racing in my first-ever triathlon, just 3 months after the birth of my third child. This year I've done two other triathlons, with one more coming up in September. My most recent training was YogaFit's Level 1 instructor training in March 2010. I have primarily taught yoga to children at my own kids' preschool, which is both exciting and rewarding. I look forward to doing more yoga instruction and moving on to Level 2 training in the near future. For me, teaching group ex has gone from a hobby to a way of life!
