HEIDI HEITKAMP

I was born and raised in Mantador ND. When I was born her mother had 4 children and the oldest was 2 (No twins--yes it is possible) I graduated from the University of North Dakota and Lewis and Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon. I worked as an attorney for the Environmental Protection Agency and the North Dakota Tax Department before being appointed Tax Commissioner in 1986. She served as Tax Commissioner (elected) from 1986 to 1992, and became the Attorney General of North Dakota, a position I held until 2000. In 2000, I ran an unsuccessful campaign for Governor of North Dakota. During my campaign I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Since 2000, I have had an opportunity to evaluate my life and priorities. In early 2004 I met Renita Brannan and today I am healthier than I have ever been in my life. Renita convinced me to team teach the church class with her and to become a certified Pilates instructor. In one year I went from not being able to touch my toes to teaching Pilates.
