My first experience of Hot Yoga was the summer of 2005. A friend dragged me along to a 60-minute class. I thought to myself, what am I getting into? In hindsight, it was the best thing I ever did… Now I am a Certified Yoga Instructor and loving life more then ever!
After moving to Oakville 2007, I found a Yoga studio nearby and began attending classes to supplement my running routine and find a community of like-minded individuals. The studio became my second home and shortly there after, I attended the 200+ hour teacher-training course to deepen my practice and share the joy of Yoga with others.
Since completion and registration with the Yoga Alliance I have had a desire to strengthen my practice and build my knowledge related to Hatha Yoga. Personal interest has lead to me several workshops and continued training in Yoga for Athletes, Pre-Natal Yoga and Power Yoga. Inspiration for my classes comes from teachers such as John Friend, Naime Jezzeny and Baron Baptiste, to name a few.
The benefits of Yoga are numerous, but add a little heat and the advantages multiply. Heat can aid in whole body detoxification, increased flexibility, overall improvement of your circulatory system and improved respiratory function (talk about a cardio workout).
My favourite Yoga pose is Head Stand (Sirshasana).
In Head Stand, you can build up power and structure in both the neck and the upper back. And at the same time, you train your arm muscles and coordination. Standing in good alignment with your body upside down also has a calming effect on your thinking.
