My style of spinning is very structured, I have a plan for each class. Most of my classes are interval energy classes, I like to mix up running, climbing, and some jumping. Many times I'll do an extended climb, either a long song or 2 shorter ones back to back. I am off the bike at least once a class and walk around, usually during a climb to make sure that everyone has enough resistance on their wheel (or in rare cases telling them to turn it down if too heavy). I'll get off more if there are rookies in the class, so I can work with them on their form, etc.
My music is wide ranging, I lean towards modern / alternative rock, but mix in just about everything, except for country. It is very important to me that the tempo of the movement matches the music - ie you would not have fast legs during Halo by Beyonce.
I am also constantly telling people to challenge themselves - whether its turning up the resistance, dropping the height of the handlebars, etc. During warm up I always make sure they know it's their ride, and not a competition - but be ready to work hard. Safety is always another key for me - I will walk up to people spinning too fast, using bad form, stretching legs on the bike, etc, and correct them (without embarrassing them).
So what will I bring? I'll bring an intense, fun ride that will challenge all levels, give beginners a good grounding, and work the more experienced folks. I'll play some music that might not normally be heard during a spin class (Metallica, for example). I definitely enjoy spinning with the group, and ride really hard with them - but always remember it's their workout, not mine. I really enjoy it when I hear students tell me (1) that was great music, (2) that was one of the best classes I've ever taken or especially (3) you beat the crap out of me today. Hearing all 3 together makes my day.....
Anyway, I'm also attaching a note from someone who took my class when I subbed ....
Best,
Dave

Hi Julie,
I wanted to pass along a compliment...
On Thursday, Oct 9 there was a substitute Spin instructor for Andrew at 6am. I believe his name is Dave. I had to write and let you know that he was excellent. Class attendance was low that day due to the Jewish holiday or perhaps knowing Andrew would be out people stayed away? Either way, Dave's class was extremely challenging and his awesome personality and music selection kept the entire class engaged. The class seemed like it was 15 minutes then over...the time went so quickly.
Those that attended the class on Thursday were still talking about it this morning. If you ever have the opportunity to have Dave sub again it would be great. We thought he was so good we wish you could create another 6am Spin class featuring him!!!
I hope this feedback might make it back to Dave but also let you know that we would love to have him back anytime (Especially for any 6am class).
Thanks!
Cheryl Mokrzecki
