I am currently a 3rd year medical student and am focusing my career on Sports Medicine and fitness. I have grown up with fitness and sports as a major part of my life. From age 3-19 I trained in ballet, modern, jazz, tap, and hip-hop dance. From age 5-15 I played soccer on town teams and freshman high school team. Tennis became a major part of my life by age 8 and had continued to be a big part of my life as a made my way through college at UMass Amherst on the division I team. Also while at UMass I majored in Kinesiology where I learned more about the body, sports performance, and health then I could have imagined possible. I was able to spend the spring of my senior year coaching Amherst high school’s girls’ varsity tennis team where my love of teaching fitness and training athletes flourished. Through footwork and conditioning sessions and regular tennis practices I was able to take the girls to the Western Mass finals where they hadn’t been in a few years. After this experience and visits with the team physician I realized this was exactly what I wanted to do for a career. I hope to become a Sports Medicine physician and also train athletes to both prevent injury and enhance their sports performance. While in medical school I have been able to obtain a certification as a strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. I have also taught Yoga to 6-12 year olds at the Center for Healthy Kids at a Worcester housing project which was run by myself and other medical students at UMass Medical School.
