robin gillespie

My name is Robin Marcel Gillespie. I am a 43 year old fitness professional that loves life and what I do for a living.

I have been in the fitness industry full time for the past 20 years. I started as a good old fashioned aerobic instructor (complete with a thong leotard and matching belt!). A series of life events led me to pursue fitness as an occupation. I started personal training after taking the ACE personal trainer exam, and the rollercoaster ride began.

I started teaching at a YMCA, which has (unbeknownst to many) a very good training and development program.

I worked at a privately owned club in Pittsburgh, PA for nine years. In addition to personal training, I taught step, aerobics, strength training, cycling, jump rope, slide (remember?) and core classes. I also worked with older adults at a senior center. I owe my strong fitness foundation to this facility, because I had a mentor who helped guide me with all things fitness. As an employee, I was able to attend many fitness workshops for free, which helped keep me right on trend with the industry.

In 1999, I moved back to Philadelphia to work for Town Sports International. I started as a floor trainer. Since then I have been promoted to Pro Trainer, then Master Trainer status. During my time at TSI I have added pilates and Zumba to my repetriore. At this time I am a Group Exercise Coordinator for two TSI locations in Philadelphia. I also run the SilverSneakers program for older adults for one of the locations. I have been a part of the Learning and Development department as an instructor for company trainers and instructors, and a presenter for our company's fitness Summit.
