For more than 25 years, fitness has been a part of my life. Yes, I’m dating myself, but it all started back in high school, when aerobics were becoming mainstream. I took some aerobics classes, but what really hooked me were the weights. I loved the way strength training made me feel and I loved the way my scrawny body was transformed. It became a part of my life. Perhaps because I started so young, lifting with “the boys” never bothered me.
My goal is to get more women to strength train. At the typical gym, you’ll see very few women lifting weights. That’s unfortunate, because the benefits of weightlifting are proven and numerous. Maybe they’re afraid of bulking up or “not doing it right”, or maybe the variety of machines and weights seem confusing. But once you get started, it isn’t intimidating at all – and it makes you feel great, inside and outside.
I want more women to feel confident with their training, their technique and themselves. That’s why I teach fitness courses: I am certified by the American Council of Exercise (ACE) as a Group Exercise Instructor, and certified in Keiser Indoor Cycling and CPR/First Aid. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in Anthropology from California State University, Long Beach.
