Chrissy Duncan

Who is Chrissy Duncan? Well I am a dynamic, fun and energizing person to be around. Other than my funny New Zealand accent, I have a lot of spunk and charisma and people are drawn to that. I love to workout and I love others to join me while I do it. I have developed my own style of teaching which focuses on encouraging others to push through the tough times while still allowing them to feel supported and safe when performing various activities/exercises. I still get so excited when I help people work towards and achieve their personal and fitness goals.

I have 2 children both boys ages 7 & 3 who are very active and keep both my husband and I on our toes. We enjoy a variety of outdoor sports and of course hockey is becoming a big part of this the older they become.

Though having children it has given me the opportunity to meet other great families in my community. I wanted to find a way to become a positive influence in the community we live in and saw the need and opportunity to offer classes that would strengthen our community members. The townhouse and high rise building complex we live in has its own private community centre named the "Canoe Club". In 2008 the Health & Wellness Committee was born.  We now offer fitness classes at affordable prices including Yoga, Pilates, Bootcamp & Zumba, Mom & Baby Classes and Aquafit classes in the summer. I co-ordinate 8 week sessions for the various classes, provide instructors for each, run an online registration portal and actually teach the Bootcamp classes twice a week right here in the "Canoe Club". We have gone from between 5-10 participants in the beginning to a range of 50-80 registrations per 8 week session.  It is very exciting to see the growth and to be a part of helping my neighbors become healthier and stronger individuals.

This past year October I completed a big goal of mine which was to complete a 1/2 marathon before turning 35. It turns out the race day was the day after my birthday. Not being a big fan of running, it was a big challenge for me to overcome however I am very proud to say that I finished with an excellent time of 1hr 43mins much quicker than I had anticipated. I look forward to encouraging others to think big and work hard towards the goal even if it seems unattainable in the beginning.
