Karen Lenehan

Karen Lenehan has been practicing yoga since 2005. She graduated in August 2009 from the 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training with Yogi Vishvketu in Akhanda Hatha Yoga and did a 100 hour teacher training in Yin Yoga with Paul and Suzee Grilley in the fall of 2010. She previously completed a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with an Honours in Exercise Psychology and is now working on her Master's of Science (Exercise Science) in Sport Psychology at the University of New Brunswick. My class is typically a blend of the following two styles of Yoga: Akhanda Hatha Yoga (or just Hatha Yoga) - A traditional and holistic form of yoga, consisting of asanas (postures) accompanied by breathwork. There is an emphasis on a balance between forward/backward/lateral bending and twisting postures. Yin Yoga - A series of 14 postures all done on the floor. These postures are held between three and five minutes with a focus on lengthening the fascia (connective tissue) in the body. Possible Description: A blend of Yin and traditional Hatha Yoga, consisting of asanas (postures) accompanied by breathwork. There is an emphasis on a balance between forward/backward/lateral bending and twisting postures. Hatha poses are held for a shorter period of time to develop both strength and flexibility while Yin poses are held from three to five minutes to focus on lengthening the fascia (connective tissue) in the body. Yin poses will result in seeing an even greater increase in flexibility than more traditional forms of Yoga. Karen Lenehan has been teaching tennis since 2004 when she received her Level I Tennis Canada Instructor Certification. She previously completed a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with an Honours in Exercise Psychology and is now working on her Master's of Science (Exercise Science) in Sport Psychology at the University of New Brunswick.
