10 THINGS THAT MAKE me RADIANT
TERRI BALTZ
1. FITNESS INSTRUCTOR FOR 8 YEARS: I joined my first spin class in Atlanta 16 years ago. I HATED the first one…I’m not kidding, for the first three months, I didn’t like the workout. It was hard!! But, am I glad that I stuck with it! Once you build up the endurance (both cardiovascular and strength), there is no workout more fun, energizing, and productive!
2. LOVE TO TEACH: I am certified through Johnny G for spin. I’m also certified in TRX, group exercise classes, and Body Pump. I can’t believe that I’ve been teaching for about 8 years here in Jacksonville. To me, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing a class participant fall in love with exercise!
3. MOTIVATION IS KEY: I know that it’s my job to motivate my classes, but really my classes motivate me! I know that I work harder, have more fun, and experience the satisfaction of watching a class participant get past that ‘hating it’ phase and move into the ‘I’m addicted to working out’ phase!
4. TO SPRINT IS TO FLY: My favorite exercise on the spin bike is a seated sprint. Anyone that knows me knows that I love to sprint to the pace of the music. I’m always challenged to find that next song that safely encourages members to let go and fly!
5. MUSIC IS MAGIC: Music is key in my classes. I like to incorporate many different genres in my spin classes: jazz, blues, heavy metal, pop, hip hop, classic rock, etc. I’ve even been known to use country music on a few occasions! Music, for me, sets the mood in a class. It tells you when to work ‘all out’ and when to allow the body some recovery time. It also makes the time fly by!
6. MY RADIANCE: My family is my ‘full-time’ job! I’m happy to have been married to Mark for almost 21 years. We have two great kids, Kaitlin (18) and Steve (15-1/2). Kate is a senior vocal major at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts and will be attending Purdue University in Fall, 2011, as a Pre-Pharmacy major. Steve is a sophomore at Bishop Kenny High School. He lives to play year-round baseball (a catcher) and enjoys football, as well.
7. WHAT I LOVE: I love to eat and drink…that’s really why I work out! I like to cook and experiment with new recipes. My theory is ‘Everything in Moderation’. Work out so that you can enjoy that piece of cake without feeling any guilt!
8. MY MOTTO: ‘Take every opportunity for exercise!’ My family hears this a lot! It just means to take the stairs instead of the elevator or a bike instead of a car. I truly try to live by this motto.
9. GOALS MAKE US STRIVE FOR RADIANCE: My personal goal is to learn and become certified to teach at least one new/trendy form of exercise. All fitness professionals know that the body plateaus after a certain amount of the same exercise. It’s good to ‘mix it up’ as much as possible! That’s why I recently became TRX certified. Teaching TRX is a new thrill. It's such a different form of exercise and intense!
10. RIDE THE RADIANCE: I’m so honored to teach at World, Jax Golf, and OmVelo! I hope that my participants feel as I do....that the vibe in my class is exactly the right environment for those who enjoy a safe, tough, group workout. We do ‘Ride the Radiance’ and we do it together, whether in spin, TRX, or Body Pump classes!
