An ex-varsity basketball player, fitness and exercise have always been a huge part of my life. After I quit basketball, I was at a loss of what I should be doing to stay in shape. I gained 25 pounds and decided I needed to do something. It was then that I started trying to get involved with teaching fitness. I didn't realize how great of a workout I could get taking fitness classes at the gym. When I decided to lose weight I started taking cardio kickboxing classes at the gym I was working at as well as doing weight workouts every other day. After 3 months I had lost 20 pounds and I was addicted to fitness. I moved to a new University and got certified in Fitness and Personal training and began by teaching a strength and toning class. I loved the interaction with the students and community participants. After finishing my undergraduate degree, I moved and again decided I needed to stay involved in fitness. I worked my way into my current job getting the necessary certifications and taking part in all of the in-service opportunities available to me so that I could learn as much as I could in order to be available to keep doing what I love. Currently, my 4 fitness classes I teach a week, are the highlight of my week! As a graduate student, they are my stress relief. My participants always leave me smiling and feeling a sense of accomplishment! Many of them are working towards their own weight loss and fitness goals and I am so happy to be a part of that!
