Julie Amsallen

My interest in yoga began almost 30 years ago with a "Power Yoga" class at my local gym. Since then my interest in all aspects of yoga has grown exponentially, and I became interested in teaching yoga about 9 years ago. I recently retired, but I was a public school special education teacher for 25 years. I continue to work with children as an online English teacher for students in China. Before becoming a teacher, I spent time in the Peace Corps in Costa Rica working with teachers there, and truly love sharing knowledge with others. I initially became a certified yoga instructor through American Aerobics Association International, and started teaching free classes to the teachers at the school where I work. They were very appreciative of the classes for both the physical exercise and the stress relief! I wanted to learn more about teaching yoga, so I began a 200 hour certification program with Gail Robertiello of YogaFlow and I received my certification through that program. I have also been teaching at Kula Yoga and Wellness since that studio opened in March 2011. I teach a Vinyasa flow class and also a gentle/restorative yoga class. I enjoy both types of classes, the rigorous and the relaxing, and am very comfortable adapting my class to the level and needs of my students. I also enjoy travelling and have enjoyed many vacations at all-inclusive resorts in the Carribean. I love to take classes while on vacation as a nice antidote to lounging on the beach all day! I love being able to combine my passion for yoga with my enjoyment of travel.
