Tywanda Diggs

Tywanda started dancing at the age of 5, and immediately discovered her first love. She was “that” girl who always knew all the latest dances and could catch on quickly and easily. She was very popular amongst her peers, because she was the one they could count on to teach them the latest moves and dance steps. Says Diggs, “I was always the little performer; and often teased lovingly as a “show-off”, but to me it wasn’t about being a “show –off” it was about me developing my showmanship, which is an important element of dance. You have to let go and let the music guide you. There is a liberating fearlessness in dance. Even the shyest among us blossom while dancing. Dance always made and makes me feel more alive.”
A professional dancer since 1986, Diggs has been featured on Puttin on the Hitz television show, making the 1st round cut, and spent several years touring with Multi-Platinum, Top Billboard Charting artist Bobby Brown, whose music videos and live performances were known worldwide and received critical acclaim for outstanding, precise and innovative choreography and dance moves which influenced dozens of artists and performers as well as changed the way the world danced. “Being on stage with Bobby, you had to be on your “A-Game”. He wanted the best around him and if someone didn’t “Bring it” – they wouldn’t make the cut.” Diggs goes on to say, “I learned so much from touring with him. It definitely challenged me to be the best Dancer I could be.”
You can dance anywhere, even if only in your heart. ~Author Unknown
As a Dance instructor, Diggs has been teaching others the joy of dance since 1995. “In 1995, I taught my first girls’ troop at a Youth Recreation Center. “It was an amazing experience, introducing children to the art of dance, who didn’t know how to or who had never danced with a group “says Diggs. It was that experience that inspired Diggs to teach dance as a medium toward a healthier more active lifestyle for kids, that is fun, easy to do, affordable and can be done anywhere at anytime. “By teaching kids how to dance, you give them a gift they can use a lifetime” says Diggs. For several years after touring with Brown, Diggs was a Hip Hop teacher at several Dance Studios throughout Atlanta, GA. For the past few years, Diggs has been teaching Hip Hop Dance classes to 5-7 year olds in the Washington, DC area.
In 2010, Diggs received her Zumba Certification to teach Zumba, an aerobic dance fitness program infusing Latin and International dance moves and music. It is fun, high energy and because you use every muscle, you tone quickly while also learning how to dance.
Diggs now plans to open her own Dance studio in the Washington, DC area to teach Zumba and Hip-Hop to people of all ages. Says Diggs, “One of my favorite quotes by Vicki Baum is ‘There are short-cuts to happiness, and dancing is one of them.’ I truly believe that.”
