Kelly Bowlin

I have always had a love for fitness. I began in athletics as a child playing basketball, softball, volleyball and swimming. Athletics taught me the power of being on a team, as well as, creating inner and external strength. This strength was needed when I suffered a broken spine (not spinal cord, thank goodness) after a car accident. It was during physical therapy that I realized I would like to help people through fitness like my therapist was helping me. I enrolled at Central Michigan University majoring in Health Fitness and Preventative and Rehabilitative Programs which was an appropriate undergraduate degree before graduate school for Physical Therapy. During university, I spent much of my time working out at the local health club, as sports were no longer part of my life. I needed to stay active and strong in mind and body and I realized this could happen not just with sports but with personal and group exercise. I was hooked! After I graduated, I did not apply to graduate school, rather, I felt I would like to pursue a career in fitness and had the great luck to move to Alpena Michigan. Little did I know there was going to be a newly opened full service health club located inside the area regional medical center. I applied for a job and quickly moved through the ranks from working at the front desk, to personal training and teaching group exercise classes to finally becoming the Assistant Manager as I am today. I love what I do! My days vary from doing billing to shooting down to teach class, then meet with a client to giving tours to potential new members. I never knew growing up that I would be doing this as my career, but if I could tell that little girl what fun I'm having in the best job in the world, I would.
