I have been teaching yoga for 9 years. Originally, I was certified with YogaFit to help fill more group exercise classes at my college gym. I was just starting my Anthropology degree at the University North Carolina Wilmington when I took a semester to do an Outward Bound cultural study program in Costa Rica. I continued to teach yoga for some friends on the trek. While I was in Costa Rica my yoga practice began evolving and I knew I needed to learn more about the spiritual side of yoga, i.e more about chakras, mediation, breath, mudra's, etc. When returning, I decided to join The Wilmington Yoga center teacher training program in 2004. During the 200hr training program, I continued with my college undergrad studies and teaching yoga at the college. My need to express myself spiritually and help the body heal with movement and breath became stronger, I wanted everyone to feel what I was feeling. After graduating and some down time in Wilmington, I decided to expand my travel experiences and cultural studies. I left for 6 months spent in Thailand and 1 month in India. Thailand was beautiful and it opened more opportunities to learn about healing of the of body through my thai massage courses at ITM school. After completing my studies I then left for India in hopes to join a yoga ashram and study more but unfortunately I got very sick and never completed this part of my journey. However I did go to India and experienced so many good people and such a wonderful country. With my travels over, I came back to my home time of Hendersonville, NC with a goal to start my own healing center with massage and yoga. I am currently working on my massage license and an Associate degree as a Physical Therapy Assistant. PureSoulYoga business has grown to 100 students with 85% returning to class consistently. I feel truly blessed to have yoga in life, to have been able to travel, and to be able to teach.
