Sarah Plummer

A lifelong competitive soccer player (five-time member of the Military Olympic Women’s Soccer Team), runner, and swimmer as well as basketball player, rock climber, surfer, snow boarder, accomplished triathlete, avid hiker, Gaelic footballer, Nationally-recruited Australian Rules footballer, and prior United States Marine Corps Officer, I first began yoga in 2001 in order to cope with over-training injuries. After years of dabbling in the practice, it was not until 2006, during my second deployment to Iraq, that I fell in love with its ability to positively alter me on a deeper level, easing my stress and helping me to feel centered. I’ve been practicing regularly ever since and credit yoga for helping me find a pathway of mindfulness and a level of flexibility, strength, and balance that was elusive through other types of athletic training or therapies.I am passionate about teaching yoga to anyone who wishes to experience its manifold benefits and I am especially dedicated to introducing yoga to people who may not “normally” be attracted to the practice (ie: beginners, athletes, and men). My teaching style is challenging and vigorous but fun and personal, as well; I enjoy inspiring students on the individual level and encouraging them to identify the passions within and to express them through the poses of their bodies. I also have an interest in bringing yoga to under-served populations, especially women veterans, service members with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or victims of sexual assault. Through my association with the non-profit organization, Semper Fidelis Health and Wellness, in January 2012 I will start teaching free group sessions at Proactiv Health Centers Chiropractic Office in New Albany, OH as well as administer free clinics and classes to veterans anywhere, often traveling in order to do so; I desire to bring yoga to those without regular access to it. With over a decade of practicing and leading experience and 25 years of experience as a competitive, collegiate, and professional athlete, I am passionate about teaching, fitness, and overall health and wellness because I love to inspire people of all ages to live their lives to the fullest! :)

In January of 2012, I will attend Marianne Wells' intensive 200hr RYT course in Costa Rica to obtain my official yoga teacher certification; by mid-2012,I plan to complete 300hr RYT Yoga Therapy Training in order to even better serve disabled Veterans.
