My name is Ramona Gellel. I am 57 years old and I live just outside of Toronto, Ontario. I have a passion for all things health and fitness! I am a 250 hour certified yoga teacher, 50 hour pilates teacher, 50 hour yin yoga teacher training, fitness teacher and a certified long-distance running coach.
As a child I was a competitive tennis player and long distance runner. Both my parents were very athletic and emphasized the importance of staying active to my siblings and I.
I decided to pursue a degree in Kinesiology from the University of Western Ontario and immediately after my teaching degree from the University of British Columbia. I have stayed active my entire life participating in fitness classes, aqua fit, tennis, badminton, cycling, spinning, yoga, pilates and soccer.
Once I began my teaching career I coached several sports at my schools and still remained active. I began running marathons 25 years ago and to date I have run more than fifty, including fifteen Boston Marathons. I have also completed 6 Ultra-Marathons.
Ten years ago I started coaching marathon runners at the local running room. I now coach for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (Team In Training). I prepare participants for the half or full marathon and participate in the event with them. I have been to more than twenty events with Team In Training including the Nike Woman's Marathon, Walt Disney World Marathon and the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon.
I have practiced yoga regularly for 25 years. In 2010 I took a 250 hour yoga teacher training course with Yoga Tree in Thornhill Ontario. The course has certified me to teach Hatha, Vinyasa Flow, Ashtanga, Restorative and Hot Yoga. After the completion of the course I was hired by Yoga Tree and currently teach at least six classes a week for them. I also teach Vinyasa Flow, Restorative and Hatha in Pickering, Ontario at In the Spirit Yoga.
As a yoga teacher, I strive to provide a safe, stimulating and challenging learning environment. I aspire to empower, motivate and guide my students to achieve their personal goals while enjoying and respecting their personal practice.
I have been an ambassador for lululemon athletica, Scarborough Town Centre (Toronto, Ontario) for the past six years. My first two years I was their Running Ambassador. I organized several 5 and 10km clinics for the store. I teach their Sunday Morning Yoga Class once a month and teach workshops.
I have not stopped upgrading my yoga education. I have taken courses in arm balances, back bends, sequencing, yoga for children, restorative and yoga for runners at the Yoga Show and Conference, in Toronto.
In June of 2011 I also took a twenty-five hour course in Teen Yoga hosted by East Village Yoga.
In 2012 I became a Mat Pilates Instructor. I teach pilates, fitness and bootcamps for the teachers of my school board.
in 2019 I took a 50 hour Yin Teacher training course and have taught since.
To Being active and fit is a big part of my life and my passion. Sharing and educating others about yoga, running and fitness has become an even bigger part of my life!
My experiences at 20 different resorts with Fit Bodies have all been FANTASTIC!!! I look forward to many more in the future.
