My name is Lisa Pope and I am currently a third year honours life science and french major at McMaster Univerisity in Ontario, Canada. For the past two years, I have been a dedicated employee at the Pulse Fitness Centre, one of the top state-of-the-art research and health facilities in all of Canada. I work everyday to promote healthy active living within myself and those around me.
My love for fitness stemmed from an early age in which I was involved in a wealth of sports and team building activities. Unfortunately, as I grew older, education and earning money for the future became increasingly more important and there became less time for sports. It was at this point that I sought other ways of being active in spite of my increasing lack of time. Growing up in a heath promoted family, I was encouraged to bridge activities to have fun and be active, giving my body what it needed to drive my mind to getting me into university. But the fact is that everyone needs a little push to get started, and this was no exception for me! My mentor, my little push, came from my Mom, who jumped, skipped, or repped weights along side me everyday for over a year after I made the choice to give back to my body for all it gives to me. Throughout my entire life, my mother has promoted healthy active living, which now I can proudly say, thrives inside of me.
Today, I seek every opportunity to educate myself on the facts and myths of health and fitness in a society of influencing media and I am working towards becoming a registered dietitian, to educate others in need. In the meantime, I have become an active part of my University community to instill the values of healthy active living on and off campus. Through my love for cycling, I have been able to help others strive towards their goals, reach them and develop even stronger goals for the future. My goal for this year is to finally be able to give back to my mother for helping me to discover my abilities and to truly love my body, by working to provide her with an all-inclusive paid vacation. A little thank you to my mentor!
