Carol Lemieux

I started teaching group exercise classes at theYMCA in 1991 when the instructor failed to show up to most classes.  The following year, I was officially trained and certified through the YMCA, AFAA and ACE as an official Group Exercise Instructor.  By 1996, I was training the trainers for the YMCA.

In 1996 I decided to also become a Personal Trainer and was certified, again, through the YMCA, AFAA, and ACE.  To this date, I am have kept the ACE certification current.

In 2000 I began learning the Martial Art of Choi Kwang Do and currently hold a 2nd degree black belt.  This knowledge afforded me the opportunity to team up with a local Police Department and with their help I taught a Women's Self Defense class.

In 2001 I decided to attend Macomb Community College to earn my degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant. After graduating in 2004 I landed a job at the Michigan Institute for Human Performance and am still enjoying working there every day.  My duties not only include treating patients with manual and exercise therapy, I also am part of the MIHP Think Tank which is a team of therapists which meet once a week to figure out why people get injured, for no apparent reason, and how to fix them.  I work with high schoolers through the elderly and everyone in-between.  I enjoy working with a variety of people through therapy and personal training.

My job also consists of being the Director of Corporate Programming for MoveWell, our subsidiary company that goes to the workplace and delivers Lunch and Learns, 5 and 15 minute biomechanical screenings.  I am also the CCCE which coordinates students coming to our clinic for the clinical rotations.

Although I am not a dietician or nutritionist, I have a love for cooking and studying nutrition and I have taught some healthy cooking classes.

Personally, I love to cook, garden, run 10Ks, and have completed at triathlon 2 years ago and am training for a duathlon this summer.
