- Zaneta Brown
Dr. Brown has over 15 years of experience in research, community nutrition, health communications, and strategic planning. She has a particular expertise in creating, implementing, and evaluating strategies to reduce health disparities among minority populations and other at-risk communities. Dr. Brown has developed and implemented national and local communications outreach initiatives for the Department of Health and Human Services as well as other public-and private-sector clients. Her past experiences includes work with the USDA, BET Foundation, National Institutes of Health, and the American Cancer Society. Most recently, Dr. Brown served as the Senior Program Director for the Health Education & Active Learning (H.E.A.L.) Academy of the BET Foundation where she created, piloted, and managed an interactive, after-school health education program for African American youth and facilitated it’s expansion to include a parent program, health advocacy and youth development. Currently, Dr. Brown serves as Chief of the Child, Adolescent, and School Health Bureau with the DC Department of Health where she manages all health programs in the District for children ages 3 to 26. Dr. Brown is an active member of the American Dietetic Association, American Public Health Association, and American Society for Clinical Nutrition, Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., The Obesity Society, and the Society for Public Health Education. Dr. Brown is a certified Spinning and Group Exercise Instructor. Dr. Brown teaches Bootcamp, spinning, kettle bell several times a week. She also provides nutrition counseling.
