(From my website, www.mayaraeyoga.com)
My life took a turn for the better when I finally decided to start listening to and following my heart. We’re often so caught up in our minds. But what makes up our mind? Thoughts. We are perpetually absorbed in thought. We are lost in the past and the future, not fully present. Our physical selves are here but our minds are traveling the time continuum.
Rather than travel the time continuum, I decided to quit my job and travel the world; In search of what, I wasn’t quite certain. Inspiration was what I was most after. A sense of purpose. A reason for my existence... Things most people start to question at some point in their lives. My travels ignited a passion I never knew was there- travel! Observing, learning from, and engaging with people from all walks of life, all around the world, I suddenly sensed and felt a complete oneness with everything and everyone. Our inter-connectedness was made visible and the smallness of the world was suddenly so apparent.
Five years ago, a pivotal life event fostered my attempt to quiet my mind by stepping into my first yoga class here in Los Angeles. I am eternally grateful to that teacher, that class and its contribution towards discovering my new path. After my first trip to India, I knew it was not my last. A year later, I was back in the same small town of Dharamsala, this time to study and become a certified yoga instructor.
As a Vinyasa yoga instructor, my classes foster total self awareness and acceptance of one's personal physical limitations. Breath and movement flow together as one as you cultivate a stillness in your mind. Be ready to challenge your self, break a sweat (while hopefully smiling) and flow to some inspiring tunes! You will gently be guided, encouraged and supported in your practice. Our energies will dance; This will be a shared journey, where the line of teacher and student blurs, learning from and encouraging one other.
