§ Recognized as an accomplished leader and valued member of the UNCG community: Gladys Strawn Bullard Award winner, 2010; Outstanding Student Affairs Employee of the Year, 2007; and National Orientation Directors Association (NODA)/Southern Regional Orientation Workshop (SROW) Outstanding Orientation Director of the Year, 2006.
§ Created and implemented many new programs designed to impact student success and retention, including the mandatory SOAR for transfer and adult students and the resulting Advising and Registration by Appointment (ARA), the Transfer Adult SOAR Leader (TASL) programs, and a variety of programs to meet the needs of our out of state students. Introduced more intentional transitional and academic advising preparation programming at SOAR and Rawkin’ Welcome Week (RWW), designed to meet the specific needs of new students, with identified learning outcomes and assessment plans.
§ Through the Orientation Planning Council, a University-wide committee offering input for SOAR programs, and through membership on the Advising Council, strengthened collaborative relationships and planning across campus.
§ Infused academic initiatives and forgedcollaborations with faculty and academic administrators for SOAR and RWW programming. Highlights include leading the creation and implementation of the Freshman Summer Reading Project, Professors’ Perspectives, Accelerate your Academics (pre-advising information), College and Schools Welcomes and multiple sessions with families related to academic advising. Partnered with Student Academic Services/UNS101 to offer various programs during RWW to introduce students to Peer Academic Leaders.
§ Employed creativity and marketing strengths to create and build UNCG spirit and collaboration across divisions including Street Team, I Bleed Blue and Gold concept, several traditions and affinity-building programs including SOAR pins for students, daisies and University seal lapel pins at the Chancellor’s New Student Convocation, renaming Spartan Welcome Week to Rawkin’ Welcome Week, and Blue and Gold Birthdays. Initiated new relationships with Athletics, creating the RWW Pep Rally, Athletics display during SOAR and coaches serving on Street Team. Collaborate with UNCG Dining for the RWW Spartan-themed dining experience.
§ Developed and nurtured award-winning undergraduate and graduate student staffs with recognition at SROW for numerous awards for case study competitions, educational sessions and orientation performances, as well as produced multiple “outstanding UNCG student employee of the year” award winners, and an “outstanding orientation leader of the year” for SROW. Established an employment progression system and an awards and recognition program for SOS. The two most recent Student Government Association Presidents were trained as Spartan Orientation Staff (SOS), and multiple SOS members, sponsored by Orientation & Family Programs, have been voted FallFest King and Queen winners. SOS leaders went on to create the unofficial spirit team “The Ocho” and served as leaders of the Blue Crew, and several departments regularly seek former SOS to hire for open positions, such as the Dean of Students Office and the Elliott University Center.
§ Facilitated growth in use of technology in Orientation & Family Programs. This includes data collection for retention research, collaboration with Admissions by contracting with AdmissionPros/SpartanLink to streamline new student entrance into UNCG, established a credit card functionality for parent and family programs, and initiated efforts to collect all parent and family data on-line and to offer parent and family resources via our webpage, making pages available in Spanish as well.
§ Active member of the Student Affairs Strategic Planning Group; developing the divisional mission statement and strategic plan for 2009-2014 in support of UNCG’s strategic plan.
§ Appointed Chairperson of the Student Affairs Staff Development Committee. Expanded steering committee and general membership, developed and refined an operational and organizational structure, established a division-wide awards program, and initiated an annual reporting method, as well as encouraged an enthusiasm amongst staff about the programs offered.
§ Invited to lead the division’s graduate assistantship efforts; chaired committee, surveyed members of division and graduate assistants for needs and from results developed a new system for advertising positions, established a resource-filled webpage and implemented a division-wide graduate assistant evaluation plan to ensure all graduate assistants were receiving more formalized and regular feedback.
§ Proposed and led the division’s assessment project for measuring student learning outcomes of divisional student employees; have since presented findings at multiple conferences and submitted for publication. Created the student learning outcomes assessment plan for SOAR to better target messaging to students; assist departments from across campus identify desired outcomes, plan presentations accordingly, review survey data, and modify for future presentations.
§ Chaired the 2006 Program Review for Office of Disability Services, gaining insight of the AHEAD Standards, which guide the work of the department, as well as operating procedures and staffing specialties and future needs.
§ First responder for the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART)for six years, assisting students in crisis and collaborating response efforts with Student Health Services’ Counseling Center, UNCG Police and Moses Cone SANE unit.
§ Participant in an EPART table top exercise, serving as a note-taker in the command center, gaining valuable awareness of the complexities involved in immediate emergency response and communication with students and families.
§ Served as the Coordinator of Student Conduct in the UNCG Dean of Students Office, administering pre-hearing conferences, advising student conduct volunteers, and coordinating Honor and Ethics/Academic Integrity Week.
§ Personal commitment to Health and Wellness; representing UNCG on the Executive Leadership Team for the American Heart Association of Guilford County and coordinating the UNCG walk teams for six years, and earning national certification as a fitness instructor, teaching group fitness at the Ragsdale YMCA in Jamestown, NC.

Director of New Student & Spartan Family Programs
§ Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate summer, fall, and spring orientation programs for over 4,000 first year, transfer, and adult students and 3,000 family members.
§ Manage state, student fee and discretionary accounts nearing $600,000.
§ Supervise and evaluate an office staff of a full-time assistant director, business and technology manager, two graduate assistants, several graduate interns and three undergraduate student Spartan Orientation Coordinators.
§ Select, train, supervise, evaluate and provide leadership, professional, and personal development opportunities for 25 traditional age and 10 transfer and adult undergraduate orientation leaders, as well as a University-wide 50-person volunteer group, Street Team.
§ Coordinate Rawkin’ Welcome Weekend and the University-wide planning committee, including the oversight of the Chancellor’s New Student Convocation and the Freshman Summer Reading Project.
§ Create programs for the needs of out of state students, such as the out of state SOAR session, out of state information sessions at SOAR, as well as a Welcome Week reception and continued on-line support.
§ Provide guidance and supervision to all Parent/Family programs and services to include orientation, Family Weekend, Parent Family Association, Parent Family Advisory Council, and print/web/email communication.
§ Develop various orientation web and printed publications and marketing techniques designed to increase participation in SOAR programs, to include resource guides and Facebook pages.

Assistant Director of Orientation for Parent and Family Programs
- Developed and implemented all programs and publications for approximately 3,000 parents and family members who attended the spring, summer and fall new student and transfer student SOAR programs.
- Coordinated all aspects of Family Weekend for an average of 500 campus guests. Family Weekend duties include all pre-event mailings and communication, web registration, welcome speaker and brunch, program sessions for families and activities for siblings. Worked in conjunction with faculty, Alumni Affairs and Campus Activities and Programs for cooperative programming activities surrounding FallFest events.
- Published a semi-annual newsletter, Family Matters, distributed to all families of undergraduate students.
- Advised the Parent & Family Advisory Council, which serves the University as a sounding board for family perspectives on current campus issues. Hosted semi-annual meetings to discuss current issues, ideas, upcoming programs and committee projects.
- Created and coordinated the Parent& Family Association (PFA), designed to increase communication between families and the University on a variety of matters, including the creation of the FamilyLink emergency notification system.
- Produced a monthly e-newsletter, Family Connections, sent to all members of the Parent & Family Association.
- Collaborated with Annual Giving for the Families Campaign.

- Assisted the Academic Integrity Advisory Group by organizing and attending monthly committee meetings, presenting information on academic integrity to deans, faculty and UNS classes, and planning various aspects of Honor and Ethics Week.
- Conducted all Pre-Hearing Conferences with students accused of conduct violations, as well as tracking sanction progress to include task assignments, drug screening and personal counseling attendance.
- Coordinated various aspects of the student conduct participant program, including advising case coordinators, assigning hearings to student volunteers, facilitating on-going training programs, and assisting in the selection process of student participants.
