Deanna Costabile

I have always had an avid love for nutrition and health which is what I believe brought me to yoga.  I hold a B.A. in dietetics from Queens College and will be continuing my education there with a masters in nutrition and exercise science.  As of September I am also enrolled at the Institute for Integrative nutrition.  I believe in power to heal, and keep your body  healthy and strong through good nutrition, and yoga.

I  began taking yoga classes in 2008, where I started with Bikram yoga.  I essentially went for the physical aspect of it and the desire to shed a few pound and tone up. After a few months I was drawn to Hatha yoga, and began to engage in classes with different teachers teaching a wide variety of styles.  After a year I started to realize there was something so much more to yoga than just the physical benefits of it.  I was so intrigued by it and how I felt inside.  I  had never found any sport or exercise that would leave me in such a state of relaxation, and comfort.  Yoga for me became a tool on and off the mat.  I used my practice to learn more about myself and related that to my life off of the mat.  It has been a transformational experience for me.  I took a few classes with Seane Corn, one of them being at the Yoga Journal Conference in NY, and she inspired even more to follow this path that I so deeply love.  My yoga teacher at the studio I have belonged to for 2 years now recommened that I get certified, and to look into Kripalu yoga.  I went to Kripalu to get a feel for it and immediatly fell in love.  I studied there for my 200 hour certification, and continue to study, and stay in contact with the teachers who had such a remarkable influence on my life.

I believe a yoga insrtuctor is not only there to teach and guide the students, but also to invoke what's already within.
