Skylor Powell

I began my profession in health services in 2009, immediately after I received my Bachelor's in Psychology, RYT 200 and my certificate in health coaching all in one fell swoop. I grew up in Ohio, where fast food was considered it's own section of the food pyramid. When I moved to Colorado for school, I was surrounded by healthy, energetic people who inspired me to get outdoors, start eating right, and eventually begin my yoga practice. It was only after a year of practice that I jumped into a teacher training program with my best friend, who I would later open a donation based yoga studio with. After becoming certified, I taught vinyasa for my fellow students at Colorado College.

The day after graduation, I moved to Portland and within a month was teaching at 2 different yoga studios and holding my own classes that were donation based in a studio space that I was renting out. Just a few months after that, I finished my health coaching certifcation and began working with clients who were suffering from emotional eating disorders as well as food allergies. This opened opportunities for me to lead The Nutrition Program and the Wellness Cleanse at Corepower Yoga as well as to coach their Live Lean Program. I loved being in a leadership role, it felt very natural to me. That's why I decided to combine my health coaching with the donation based yoga classes that I was holding into one space called Sprout Health.

Sprout opened its doors in September of 2010. At Sprout, I taught yoga classes and managed yoga instructors. I taught cooking classes and managed cooking instructors. I ran the accounting and the marketing departments, and was health consulting up to 20 clients at a time, more if there was a group cleanse happenng.  It was thrilling and exhausting all at the same time. After a year and a half I was spread too thin, so I closed the yoga doors at Sprout.

Since then, I have been growing my health coaching business and teaching yoga at Corepower Yoga. I have created an online community by estalbishing an online cleanse and forum. This allows for me to help others all over the world, rather than just in my own town. It also creates space for me to travel, which is what I am currently doing.

I wil be in Minneapolis through the middle of October. Then I am off to Mexico with my partner through November. After that, the world is our oyster! We plan on travelling all over the world.
