Born and raised in Oregon I have been practicing yoga for three years now. From the very first class I attended I would always come out of the studio feeling strong, empowered and energized as if my body had been lit on fire. The more my practiced deepened the more I noticed not only a change in how I looked, but how I felt from then on I knew that I wanted to share my practice with others.
My first two years of college I studied under Erica Mason, who was truly an incredible and inspiring teacher, and one of the main reasons I decided to pursue yoga. When I moved to Portland Hot Yoga for Life found me; I was very indecisive in which studio and which type of yoga I wanted to start teaching. Then one day I decided to try Hot Yoga for Life’s’ 10 for 10 I was hooked, and immediately started asking all kinds of questions about their teacher training. I was a little bit hesitant to start practicing in a hot room, but I fell in love right away. I loved how after each class I always felt like I had an amazing workout and could see my practice improving on little things like staying focused in each pose and concentrating on an even steady breath.
What I personally enjoy most about yoga is the combination of anatomy, science and mysticism all in one. As an instructor I’m able to help give my students the proper alignment cues to get them safely in and out of the pose. But on an individual level each student has the power within themselves to connect their mind, breath, body and spirit at once in their own practice.
I feel that yoga is a practice that is available to everyone at any age or fitness level. Even if you already have a workout regimen set for yourself yoga will compliment any kind of physical activity.
We call it a ‘practice’ for a reason no one is perfect; both in life and in yoga, feel free to come to my class and ask as many questions as you need to. Try not to feel discouraged or embarrassed when starting out, everyone works at a different pace and we all had to start as a beginner too. My classes are ego free so everyone can explore and deepen their own practice. J
