Leena Miller

Leena's classes emphasize clear alignment principles and challenge students to safely move deeper into the physical practice while connecting fully with their heart. Students find Leena's teaching invigorating as well as nurturing, and appreciate her balance of lightheartedness, enthusiasm and wisdom.

Leena discovered yoga at age 13, and has deepened her commitment to the practice since 2005. In 2008 she completed a 250-hour yoga teacher training certification with Karen Claffey, a Certified Anusara teacher. The same year she also did a teaching apprenticeship with Kara Schmidt of Spacious Heart Yoga.

Leena continues to be supported in her practice and teaching through her ongoing studies locally and internationally with senior teachers, including Darren Rhodes, Elena Brower, and Christi-an Slomka.

In her own words

"To me yoga is both an inward journey to the heart and a means of connecting more authentically with the world. Yoga crystallizes the vibrant pulsation of life and connects me to that rhythm, while also nudging me towards a point of inner balance, stillness and settling. It is a joyful and challenging practice and a metaphor for life off the mat. Yoga inspires me to live each day with an open mind and connected heart."

Community Involvement

Leena completed a degree in Cultural Anthropology with her undergraduate thesis work focusing on connections between yoga, embodiment, and mental health. She was active throughout her university career: co-producing the first production of the Vagina Monologues at the University of Waterloo, leading the Conrad Grebel Peace Society, and working in the community with immigrants and refugees. Currently Leena volunteers with MCC's program Circle of Friends supporting women in the community as they transition back into independent housing after being in Mary's Place women's shelter.
