When I started taking Zumba classes about 3 years ago, I was almost 300 pounds. I walked into the studio at my gym, and I was all the way to the back, embarressed by my weight and body shape. The instructor was so engaging and her personality was magnetic. She saw me dancing in the back after a few classes and slowly urged me to come closer and closer to the front. After a while, she would put me on stage with her, and it was amazing the feeling I had when I was dancing. The weight started falling off, and after a while I was urged to become an Instructor. I thought "Hey why not!", so in May 2011, I got licensed to teach. At the time, I didn't really think I would start teaching because my instructor taught 4 times a week, so I was good in the cardio department. In November 2011, My favorite instructor moved out of state, and my personal trainer quit the gym, so I felt I needed something to get me going again because the instructors the gym hired didn't quite get my heart rate going. So I auditioned and Began teaching immediately! Soon afterwards I was AFAA Group fitness certified, and now I love to teach to both adults and kids!
