Sherri Ann Bennett

Teaching is in my genes, as my parents are both retired college professors.  My love for teaching fitness started at age 16.  I had just become a member of a gym and was taking a group exercise class.  The manager approached me after class and said "would you like to learn how to teach aerobics?"  My reply, "ABSOLUTELY!"  It was so much fun for me to help people with fitness that I decided to pursue an undergraduate and graduate degree in the health and fitness field.  Upon graduation from college I managed a gym for a year before going to graduate school.  During my master's degree I had an assistantship and taught undergraduate fitness classes.  After my schooling I continued teaching aerobics and doing personal training at various gyms.  Then I taught fitness classes at a community college for 10 years, and coordinated the PE department for 3 of those years.  As I continue to work in gyms today, I also teach for WITS and prepare those who want to become certified personal trainers.

Over the years I have taught fitness to kids, adults, seniors, pregnant women, athletes, and firefighters.  I have taught water aerobics, step, muscle classes, core classes, low impact, stretching and yoga/pilates-influenced classes (although not pure yoga or pilates, as I am not certified in either of those.)

My greatest complements from clients and class participants are that I am able to explain what they are supposed to be doing and where they are supposed to be feeling the exercise.  They also appreciate the fact that I focus on teaching good form.  Teaching/educating is very much a part of my style and expertise.  I also feel like I am able to adapt to any age group or fitness level, and am able to teach a class with participants of varying fitness levels.  I have taught in studios with suspended floors, expensive stereo equipment, and full-length mirrors, but I have also taught in a gymnasium with 80 college students, a boom box, and no microphone.  I can adapt to any environment or situation.

I have been happily married for almost 19 years to my husband.  We enjoy traveling and seeing new places.
