Peter Wimberg

My name is Peter Wimberg and I am a USA Cycling Level 1 coach with Distinction and also have the Power Based Certification. I obtained my initial certification fiftenn years ago. Since then I have obtained hundreds of  CEU's needed through webinars and attending clinics to reach Level 1. There are just a couple hundred level 1 coaches in the world.  I was also the first coach in Ohio to obtain the Power Based Certification. This means that I have an understanding of how cyclist would train with a variety of wattage meters and how to interpret that data. The added 'distinction' is in recognition of achieving well more than the CEU's required to upgrade. At this time I have enough credits to move up to Level 1 once that clinic is scheduled.

About 14 years ago I obtained my Personal Trainer Certification through the American Council on Exercise (ACE). Since then I have maintained the CEU's as required to keep my certification current. This also includes CPR training. My total CEU's have now reached over 500 hours when combined with my USA Cycling credits. At one time I was also a USA Triathlon coach. I held that certification for five years.

Wimberg Bike Coaching LLC, of which I own 100%, works with competitive and recreational cyclists and triathletes in designing and implementing training calendars that allow the athlete to both meet and exceed their goals. Each athlete is tested to find their lactate threshold and VO2 (performed at a local university).  If using power they are given a field test to determine their wattage training zones. By incorporating TrainingPeaks within this system the athlete is able to receive their workouts in their in-box each morning, post workouts to their page, offer comments and then interact with me as we interpret and modify the training plan as needed.

My career at the Cincinnati Sports Club has grown from one spin class to now 3-4 spin classes per week, 2-3 circuit classes per week, several personal training clients and specialty classes such as Indoor Endurance and Riding With Power. At one time about half of my week was spent at the club with the other half spent on other businesses that I own in the Cincinnati area including Wimberg Landscaping, Inc.  Currently I am still teaching classes and coaching but also spending more time volunteering in our local parks and in Great Smoky Mountain National Park where I do trail maintenance for about 400 hours per year.

My personal interests include cycling, gardening, photography and music. On the cycling end I've been riding for over 40 years and have accumulated just over 375,000 miles. I started competing in the individual time trial about 27 years ago and in that time have won 20 local titles (age and overall titles), 100 state gold medals along with 10 silvers and several bronze, two national championships along with eight national silvers. I also won two bronze medals at the World Senior Games in 2017. I've ridden over 200 centuries (100 miles or more), covered the 450 miles and 50,000' of climbing of the Blue Ridge Parkway in four and half days and ridden 500 miles around Alaska.

My wife and I have been married for over 37 years and have a 31 year old daughter. We've lived in Cincinnati our entire lives and enjoy traveling and spending time at our second home in the mountains of  Tennessee.

In addition to having made fitness a huge part of my life and bringing fitness to the lives of others I do truly enjoy meeting and getting to know people. To be able to combine traveling with teaching would be a great experience! And, if you need a drummer, I'm also a professional musician.
