I had a few false starts with yoga before completely falling in love. Years of playing competitive hockey and other sports growing up made me a prime candidate for the practice and it wasn’t before long that I was a convert. I was aware of my breath for the first time and was gaining this new sense of body awareness. I was also quickly seeing that I was gaining tools from my practice that could be transferred to my life off of the mat – I was learning to see the sensations, breathe through them, and still find a way to smile!

I love to keeps things fresh and my classes reflect that. I always make an effort to include a little bit of everything in each class: stretching, strengthening, balancing, twists, core work, etc.  My classes are designed for people who are looking for a “workout” or a challenge, but I always allow for sufficient time for seated postures and a dreamy final savasana! I also like incorporate hip and back opening exercises in the warm-up and throughout the class in an effort to get at those tough spots, but also to enable the body to get a little bit deeper in the postures.

“Why” also plays a big role for me. When guiding people through a given posture, I aim to explain why I’m giving them certain tips or instructions – be it engaging your quads in a forward fold or lengthening before twisting – so that they can start to connect the dots and understand the inner-workings of the posture and their own body. Understanding leads to growth and as a student myself, learning these little tidbits of information has enabled me to have many “aha” moments which have been of great value to my own practice.

I graduated from the 200-hour teacher training program at Adi Shesha Yoga Zone in 2012, and have taken various workshops from Basia Going and Hart Lazer.
