Kimberly Townsend

My name is Kimberly Townsend and I am an active 27 year old high school biology teacher and nationally certified group fitness instructor. I started out as a tap dancer at the age of three and twenty-four years later I am still rocking to the music! I trained in tap and jazz for fifteen years growing up. During college at the Univeristy of Evansville, I began teaching aerobic kickboxing. I began training in Shotokan in 1997 while working on perfecting my aerobic class format. I was employed by a local karate studio and I taught at various fitness facilities as part of a contract with the martial arts studio. In 2000, I began certified by NDEITA and in 2004 I completed my AFAA group exercise certification. I received by red belt in Tae Kwon Do as of 2003. I went on hiatus from karate in order to cheer professionally for the National Indoor Football League's Evansville Bluecats. I have worked at numerous gyms and done local performaces in martial arts tournaments. In June 2005, I completed my YMCA group certification in addition to AFFA. I currently teach aerobic kickboxing, body blast(weight training), combo-step, yoga and aquatics. I received my Yoga Fit certification in 2005 also. I worked at a local country club as the aquatics instructor in 2005. I am an active volunteer, teaching group exercise to low income women at a local church. Aside from teaching aerobics six days a week and teaching full time high school biology, I enjoy competing in beauty pageants. I was the state winner for the Miss Hawaiian Tropic Pageant in 2002, Mrs. Indiana Globe in 2003 and Mrs. Indiana Galaxy 2004. Along with competing, I coach and train young women for fitness/modeling and pageants. As a high school biology teacher, I incorporate my health and fitness training into my lesson plans. I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to influence the young people of today by serving as a positive role model. I have been married four and one half years to Brian Townsend. Together we share a passion for leading a healthy lifestyle. We have a precious Yorkshire Terrier named Haley. In my spare time, I enjoy scrapbooking and traveling. I have traveled extensively throughout Europe and Southeast Asia. In the summer of 2004 I trekked through the jungles of Kalimantan Borneo while doing research on wild orangutans as part of a teaching fellowship. I am looking forward to continuing my pursuit of sharing the gift of fitness with people from other countries! In conclusion, my philosophy for fitness is quite simple: "Make every contact a positive one!"
