Jennifer Skinner-Cisse

I have always been a dancer, starting at a very young age. In high school I was in the color and winter guards, and could often be found outside in the snow practicing choreography with a wooden rifle. When I graduated from high school in 1988, I became certified to teach aerobics with a company called Energetics, and then worked in the university gym at the State University of NY at Oswego teaching old school high impact aerobics.

After graduating from Oswego in 1992, I attained the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) Primary and Step Reebok certifications. In 1995 I attained the American Council on Exercise (ACE) Group Fitness certification, became a certification examiner for AFAA, and then a continuing education provider for both AFAA and ACE. In '95 and '96 I provided choreography workshops and continuing education credits for other group fitness instructors throughout upstate New York and Vermont. In '96 I relocated to Vermont, and began teaching various fitness classes at a local fitness facility.

In 2005 I began to study West African dancing and drumming wth local Guinean artists, and in '07 and '08 I traveled to Guinea, West Africa to further my studies. I spent a total of 3 months in Africa studying the culture, dancing, drumming, and also met my husband! After the birth of our beautiful daughter Kayla, who can most often be found dancing with me at classes and events, I discovered ZUMBA® fitness, and was finally able to fulfill both my love of teaching group fitness and my passion for dance, all in the same class! I became licensed to teach ZUMBA® fitness in November of 2010, and have been teaching in the greater Burlington, VT area ever since.
