As a long-time educator in the wellness and fitness field, I currently enjoy sharing my knowledge about nutrition, vegetarianism, fitness, wellness, tai chi and yoga to students at Harrisburg Area Community College and in my town of Lititz. I also maintain a current Certificate as an American College of Sports Medicine Exercise Physiologist.
I have traveled to yoga retreats in Costa Rica, Honduras, Ecuador, Hawaii, Mexico, Alaska and throughout the US. In 2008, I traveled to Mysore, India to study yoga there, and in 2009 I led a Week of Wellness retreat for 11 women at Mar y Selva Eco-Lodge in Costa Rica, teaching yoga daily, leading discussions on ayurveda, chakras, eating to support a yoga practice and meditation.
Personally, I have completed six marathons, four triathlons, numerous long-distance bicycling events and tandem bicycle races (with my husband Neil). My last running race was a 10-miler Run for the River in Soldatna, Alaska. I hike in the orchard adjacent to my home every morning for 45-60 minutes. Past accomplishments include backpacking the entire 2,000-mile Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine one summer and bicycling around the perimeter of the United States 11,000 miles on a tandem with my husband. Both of those were B.C. (before children!). Our children are now grown and pursuing their own active lifestyles.
I am in the fitness field because I love to share information about the benefits of regular exercise and good nutrition, and I am an example of the many ways one can achieve and maintain fitness--and a high quality of life--even into senior years. I love to travel, but my travel always includes some form of fitness, such as yoga, hiking, bicycling. By helping others to motivate themselves to find wellness, it's a win-win situation. I love sharing and my students/participants gain valuable tools to find fitness.
I am continually seeking new learning experiences and have been certified as a Food Healer and QiGong and Tai Chi Instructor. More recently, I have been studying with shaman, Brant Secunda of Dance of the Deer, and Sierra Bender, founder of Boot Camp for Goddesses, learning the ways of shamans and Native people.
