My yoga journey began long before I was introduced to the practice. As a child, I was super active. No matter the season, I would run home around sunset, still wound up from a day of swimming at the beach or skating on the ice. As I got older, I played five seasons of small college ball that took a heavy toll on my body. When I (begrudgingly) took my helmet off for the last time, I was faced with One Big Question: Who am I now and how do I fill the void left in my life?
After spending a brief period of time doing nothing physical at all, I gave in to a growing interest in attending some nearby yoga classes. Yoga – as it does in so many aspects of life – put my ideas about wellness into perspective. Yoga is not just about stretching your leg around your head or getting into the perfect headstand. Yoga is about appreciating your own hard work and discovering who you really are. Yoga is about honoring every day you have on earth – the good, the bad and the ugly.
