I found my personal journey to fitness in my twenties. I was an avid aerobics and step aerobics fan, and was lucky enough to have participated regularly in a group exercise class in the 90's that was really ahead of its time: combining cardio and strength training in a group exercise setting, set to music. Unfortunately, I got off that fitness path for fifteen years. I felt and watched my health and body decline, and decided at age 40 to make a lifestyle change and be fit both for my looks and my health. In 2009, I joined a gym and participated in several group exercise programs. When I tried Zumba, I knew I had found my niche. In a short time, I lost about 30 pounds (20% of my body weight) and 12% of my body fat and have kept it off since, and have significantly increased my fitness condition and abilities.
One way I have remained consistent is by becoming a group exercise instructor. I became a licensed Zumba Fitness Instructor in 2009, and then also got licensed as a Zumba Gold Fitness Instructor in 2011. I have a team-teaching partner, and together we have taught independently by arranging facilities for classes with our city in city-owned buildings, and have had the same schedule (4 classes per week) of Zumba classes for 4+ years. We have also added Zumba Gold classes which are now taught by a colleague who was formerly a student. I cannot remember a time when I showed up to teach a Zumba class that I did not smile and feel energy and make every effort to pass that passion on to my class.
I am now in my 5th year of consistently being passionate about fitness. I believe that exercise should not cease when we take a vacation from our day jobs, whether a short weekend getaway or a long stay. I am a huge believer in exercise options and healthy eating opions for guests at hotels and resorts. I will not even go for a weekend getaway without making sure I find a daily activity to move my body and burn some calories.
I am in love with the concept and vision of Fit Bodies, Inc. which is that people should not have to give up their fitness routine simply because they are away from home. I look forward to being that person who shares with vacationers a passion and energy for exercise!
