Matthew Bonas

My name is Matthew Bonas.

For as long as I can remember I have been into sports, fitness, and wellness. Weight lifting and exercising five to six days a week I was no stranger to the gym. I considered myself a fit individual but nothing has brought me closer to and helped me achieve my fitness, health and wellness goals like yoga. I fell in love with yoga after attending my very first class over 8 years ago. I began attending classes three to four days a week and noticed that I would look forward to the end of my work day to practice. Last year, I was approached by an instructor at a gym about a yoga teacher training course that she and her husband were running out of their home studio. I contacted another former instructor and friend and asked her opinion. She thought it was a great idea and also suggested the option of going to India to receive authentic instruction. Being no stranger to travel, I agreed it would be the experience of a lifetime and before I knew it I was India bound! One month later I completed my 200 hour training in Goa at the Maharishi Yoga Vihar Foundation. Today, I am very proud to be a certified yoga teacher.

I got more out of the teacher training course then I could have ever imagined. Prior to my voyage to India I believed yoga was purely a practice with physical benefits. It was only until I added pranayama and meditation to my practice that I realized the benefits were much more far reaching. I came to the realization that it was practicing yoga that motivated me to drastically change my diet; cutting out all grains, dairy, and junk foods. I now eat for nourishment rather than for simple pleasure. I consume foods with the belief they will nourish not only body, but mind and soul as well.

Practicing yoga helps me relax my mind after a long stressful workday. Yoga motivates me to constantly improve and try my best in all that I do. I now practice every day, either at studios, the gym or at home. Practicing yoga has improved my physical strength and flexibility, mental strength and confidence, and has helped me grow spiritually. I am very passionate about teaching yoga and love to share the practice with as many people as I can. I believe yoga can add balance to any fitness regime while promoting mental and spiritual health. Joining Fit Bodies Inc. would provide an excellent opportunity to continue to do that. Indeed it would be a dream to share all yoga has to offer and travel.
