Christine Clayton

My name is Christine Clayton. I am a fitness instructor who is passionate about teaching and learning. From an early age, I had a love of fitness which has developed into a lifestyle. I am 5'4" and 120 lbs. I have a very slim, athletic build. I am extremely toned and my body is well-defined.  I have one son who is 13 years old.  For many years, I coached and trained my son's hockey and soccer teams using the fitness and training techniques that I acquired through my education and teaching experience.

I studied Kinesiology in university. I also played Varsity Women's Ice Hockey. After university, I trained for the Women's Olympic Hockey Team in 1994. Throughout my years in University, I participated in several fitness assessment experiments. I was the recipient of the Arthur C. Johnson Award for combining high academic standing with athletic performance.

After graduating from University, I began teaching fitness classes and was on a fitness team in Toronto that launched step classes to several fitness clubs in Ontario. I taught step classes for about 3 years, and then moved on to teach more classes including cardio, hi/lo impact, body sculpting, and bootcamp classes at Fit For Life in Toronto for about 5 years.

I became a high school Physical and Health Education Teacher, and taught many fitness classes, designed and instructed an Energetics Program which combined group fitness from a practical and theoretical approach. I did fitness assessments and evaluations, personal training, and weight training techniques for several years.

I proceeded to do a Master's degree in Education with a focus on the effects of cognitive functioning and its relationship to physical performance. Since then, I have continued to teach group fitness classes on a regular basis and I am currently still teaching group fitness classes at two locations in Pickering for Curves International, as well as for a private school in Pickering.

Through my education and experience I have gained the knowledge and expertise to incorporate fitness, training, and the mind/body connection into a lifestyle that promotes balance and a sense of well-being.

Even though I have been teaching fitness classes for the past 20 years or more, I continue to educate myself and remain current with the changes in the fitness industry. Every summer, instead of teaching, I travel to various fitness clubs in Toronto and the surrounding areas and take part in a variety of group fitness classes led by fitness professionals.

This experience has helped me to introduce several new and updated fitness options and techniques. I also am current with the latest fitness trends by doing a lot of reading and research. Each summer, I attend at least 30 or more new fitness classes of various types, as well as immerse myself in reading and reviewing many new fitness resources and materials.

I absolutely love to travel, and have participated in several fitness classes while vacationing. In fact, there are many learned techniques that I use today.  My next goal is to further expand my fitness knowledge and experience by teaching with Fitness Pro Travel. I am very personable, motivated, educated, knowledgeable and experienced.

My aim is to help people achieve their fitness goals by learning the proper techniques and approaches to fitness in a fun, safe environment. At the end of each class, I leave my participants feeling invigorated and revitalized! I am very conscious of the needs of the participants, and cater to all fitness levels. I have great music, and I give very clear and concise instructions to make all of my classes very user-friendly! Fitness is a way of life. As a next step, I would love to inspire people to continuing pursuing fitness goals through new teaching opportunities at Fitness Pro Travel.

You have to know your audience, and you have to be prepared to instruct accordingly. You can put me in almost any new teaching situation, and I guarantee that I will know exactly what approaches and techniques are required. This experience is not something that a certificate can provide. I strongly believe in education and increasing knowledge, and I am a passionate learner. Knowledge comes in many forms, and through my experiences and education and self-learning, I believe I would be a good candidate for Fitness Pro Travel.
