A few years back, I took some time to think about what I liked to do and what I was good at. I came up with this equation: 2 + 2 = Pilates Instructor! Corny as it may sound, I consider Pilates to be my “calling” in life – helping people look and feel more fit. I have been practicing Pilates for over 10 years – and teaching it for 5. My business, “Pilates Delivered” can be found on Facebook. I call it “Delivered” because I have Delivered Pilates instruction to groups in school, college, church, and business. I have also taught in dance studios, rec centers, at Fit Zone and in clients’ homes, besides teaching privately in my home.
Learning, teaching, and exercise have always been a huge part of my life. I have an under-graduate degree in languages and teaching and an M.B.A. from University of Michigan. My Stott® Pilates training has all been through Equilibrium Studio in Michigan.
I am certified to teach MAT & Reformer. I have also completed studies in Cadillac, Chair & Barrels, and ISP (Injury & Special Populations). My credentials stay updated through workshops I take like: Shoulder Girdle, Osteoporosis, Lower Back Pain, Reformer and MAT Using Resistance Circle, Athletic Training, Ultimate Back Care, Postural Analysis, and Breast Cancer Rehab. I am currently working on the Certified Personal Trainer Program through ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine). As a Pilates instructor, I use the teaching skills I developed in college to make corrections and use positive comments to reinforce the new habits. The students feel my teaching manner is encouraging, positive, and friendly. I make modifications to challenge students or accommodate people with physical issues. I am able to incorporate balance into the exercises and use small “props” (like stretch bands, weighted toning balls, resistance circles or large balls).
I said exercise has always been part of my life. I have practiced Pilates for over 10 years and taught for over 4. Besides that, I have personal experience with: Weight-training, running, Yoga, Tai Bo, Jazzercise, snow skiing, water skiing, tennis, Step Aerobics, Cardio-Intervals, and Plyometrics.
So that tells you the WHAT. Now how about the WHO? In my “spare” time I like to go to our cottage, where we swim, walk, entertain & water ski. I enjoy tending to 3 small flower gardens and a “faux river” garden. I constructed the “faux river” garden because we have an Artesian well, which always creates its own little stream in the yard. I am married and have 2 great children, both of whom are engineers. Both have inherited the desire to stay fit. I love to travel with my husband (most recently to 5 countries in Central Europe). Sometimes, before I visit a country, I take a semester of their language (like Polish or Italian). People respond well, if you can say a few words in their language. Having studied piano as a child, I started lessons this year and am amazed at how well I am progressing. I believe you have to keep connecting those brain synapses!!! Involvement in my church includes, reading scripture at the services and acting as a mentor at Vacation Bible School. Currently, I am taking the ACSM program in order to learn how to better help my private clients, many of whom are older. I am blown away by their improvements in posture, flexibility & strength! My “professional” career has also included supervision, technical writing and computer programming.
It seems to me that Fitness Pro Travel Community has my name all over it! I am confident and encouraging as an instructor. I am well-trained and very experienced. I have taught all age-levels and I love to travel!
