Martha Engber

I love to play and get other people playing.

A mover from my birth in Aurora, IL, I?ve done just about every type of movement-oriented play possible: hula hooping, trapeze-flying, acro-yoga, rock climbing, scubadiving, swimming, golfing, surfing, longboarding, backpacking, cycling, waterskiing, kickboxing and many forms of dance (jazz, tap, country line dancing, classical Indian dancing, flamenco).

I use every experience I?ve ever had over the last 18 years as an instructor and 48 as an adventure-oriented human being to get my participants moving and having fun, which inevitably offers them brilliant proof of their potential to be active, fit, great people throughout their entire lives.

In each class, I:

?   introduce myself and welcome everyone

?   explain the goal and structure of each class to set participants? expectations appropriately

?   provide up to 3 alternatives for every move to accommodate all skill levels

?   watch for safety issues

?   incorporate kind-spirited humor

?   utilize universal nonverbal gestures regarding direction/position to aid those of a differing spoken language

?   and play class-appropriate music

The result is an experience that leaves people feeling successful, relaxed and wonderful, which brings me daily joy!

Besides being an inherently joyful person, I?m happily married to an Apple software engineer, have two grown kids and have started traveling the world (Great Britain, Mexico, Cayman Islands, Italy, and most recently, Greece). I maintain a fitness blog for those in my fitness community and often use the forum to pass on the often unusual workouts I do in foreign locales, like performing yoga on the rooftop of my hotel in Athens, Greece, with a view of the Acropolis at sunset.

Along the way I?ve learned life is too short to stay too long in the same place doing the same thing, which is why I?d like to travel more and see what adventures ? and adventurous people ? other places have to offer.
