I have been passionate about fitness my entire life. Exercising faithfully since I have been 13 years-old, I usually spend as much time helping others achieve their fitness goals as I do working on my own. So after years of being asked how to get in shape, the GFm at our club approached me and said, "You are always helping to train people, why don't you become a personal trainer for the club?" After obtaining my personal trainer certification, our club launched Les Mills Bodypump and CXWORX and I became certified in those programs as well. I spent two years helping build the class and we basically rescued a dying fitness program at our facility and I'm proud to say I was a part of that.
Last year, our facility decided to add Zumba Fitness to the group fitness program. It did NOT start off well and it was common for classes to only have 2-3 participants. For one of the biggest and most successful fitness programs on the planet to be failing, we knew something had to be wrong. My GFM, knowing I had been in musical theater in my youth, asked me if I would be interested in taking on Zumba Fitness to see if we could keep the program from failing. We attended classes, good and bad, adjusted it for our gym's demographics, earned our certifications, and began teaching on a regular basis. I am proud to say it has been a major success. Our group fitness studio holds 20 comfortably, 30 is packed, 35 you can't breathe! We do 35 on a regular basis. We are now working on expanding the group fitness studio to accomodate the demand for our classes. To say I am passionate about teaching Zumba Fitness is an understatement. I retired from all of my other classes so I could put all of my time and energy into teaching this wonderful program. The joy I get out of teaching is only surpassed by the joy I see in my students taking my classes. It's a wonderful experience.
