For nearly ten years, I worked in the investment industry. I have always used exercise and studying about health and nutrition as a way to escape from stressful work days until I realized that working in the fitness industry would provide the enjoyment that I had missed in the investment industry. So, in December of 2012, I submitted my letter of resignation, enrolled in college to pursue a degree in Nutrition, and I began studying the NASM Certified Personal Trainer coursework. Since I have always studied health and fitness, and have trained friends and family members recreationally, becoming certified was the most natural next step. I am now a NASM Certified Personal Trainer and Fitness Nutrition Specialist.
Since becoming a personal trainer this past January, I have been teaching heart rate based interval training classes, beach boot camp, strengthening/sculpting, and aquatic classes. I also provide adult swimming lessons. I have learned that I enjoy, and am skilled in, teaching classes and working with older clients. This has prompted me to begin studying for group training and senior fitness certifications.
In addition to my new, fulfilling career, I have also been spending more time travelling! While most people discover their life's calling in their twenties, I did not figure it out until my thirties. I originally viewed this as a disadvantage, but I have a maturity and work ethic that younger people do not yet have. (Plus, I still appear to be in my mid-twenties!) Additionally, having experienced the stresses of a corporate office job, it is much easier for me to relate to vacationing adults who want to either maintain their current exercise routines or discover new interests.
