Laura Kennell

I’m a small town American girl living in big city Canada. I fell in love with yoga in college when a friend literally dragged me to a heated power flow class with her. I remember walking into the studio, feeling scared and unsure, and then feeling crazy and hot as hell as I sweated buckets onto my mat while trying to twist my body into a pretzel. After class ended, I walked out of the studio feeling so alive and invigorated! I was hooked! I started practicing multiple times per week and was amazed not only by the physical transformation that was taking place but the mental transformation as well. My body, once held back by asthma and achy joints, felt loose and powerful. My mind started to work through the anxiety, depression and anger issues I had suffered with for years. Yoga gave me clarity to see areas in my life that needed work and then equipped me with tools to make necessary changes and move forward. Through this process of growth I realized that my yoga practice was just a reflection of my life. That idea was such a huge revelation for me! It was so incredibly empowering and I knew then I had to share yoga with others. I signed up and went on my first teacher training in 2011 and hoped to start teaching yoga immediately. My dream was ultimately put on hold, though, when I had to suddenly move out of the country for my husband’s job. Fast-forward two years, many moves and various cities later, I had figured my dream to teach yoga, was just that—a dream. Until one-day fate intervened…at the last minute I signed up and went to Power Yoga Canada’s Teacher Training in August of 2013. Now I am teaching at PYC Leaside and helping run their fabulous energy exchange team! I feel so incredibly blessed and thankful to be a part of the PYC community. I’m eternally grateful to everyone who’s been a part of my journey thus far and I’m excited to see what’s in store. Peace & Love--
