Melissa Lido

I live in Durham, NC in the USA.

By day I teach secondary/high school (ages 14-18) Latin classes - both face to face and online.  In the evenings and on weekends, I moonlight as a yoga teacher.  I have been practicing yoga for over ten years and teaching reguarly for the past four years. Through a steady and consistent home practice, I quickly discovered that yoga imbued me with an overall improved sense of well-being and deeper connection to my own spirituality. I began taking regular yoga classes with Dharma Richards in 2008 and was inspired to deepen my practice through Yoga Garden’s Live Your Yoga Teacher Training.

My mission is to provide students with opportunities to discover new possibilities and transform themselves spiritually, mentally, and physically through the science of yoga. My classes come from a place of patience, love, and joy. I offer students classes rooted in creative and well-rounded Asana sequences, breathwork, and meditation. By cultivating a supportive class environment, I encourage students to be true to themselves, acknowledge and honor the teacher within, and tap into that deep awareness that ultimately leads to self-realization.

I have a special interest in restorative yoga, and hold a certification in this specialty area from the NC School of Yoga. Additionally I has had the privilege to study with several master teachers including, Sri Dharma Mittra (Classical Hatha Raja Yoga), Judith Hanson Lasater (Restorative Yoga), Susan Jackson (Hatha Yoga), Satya Tara (Ashtanga Yoga) and Hardarshan Khalsa (Kundalini Yoga).

One of the ways I “live my yoga” off the mat is by exploring the benefits of a “raw/live foods” diet and vegetarian lifestyle. Combining my love of yoga, raw/live foods, and vegetarianism, I author a blog, “The Avocado Queen”, www.theavocadoqueen.com.
