Fitness and traveling have been my two favorite hobbies for many years. I had played sports growing up, but nothing too serious. Up until high school I had played basketball on a league, losing focus on fitness and turning my attention to other things. When I went to college, I took a few workout classes and quickly remembered how good it felt to be pushed.
During the summer of 2010, I took my first trip overseas (had already been to Mexico and Canada). I volunteered in Goa, India for six weeks and taught english in the slum schools. The experience was incredbible and begun what would be an extensive amount of traveling in the next few years to follow. Upon returning from India, I focused my atttention more on fitness again but changing it to more outdoors style. I lived in Bend, Oregon at this time so we did quite a bit of snowboarding, cross-country sking, hiking, white water rafting, camping, etc. In July 2011, I found a job in Stuttgart, Germany as an au pair and left home again, but this time for a year.
While living and working in Germany I was fortunate enough to travel all over Europe and gain an amazing amount of knowledge that I would never get from reading text books. While I was there, I attended a bootcamp class twice a week, every week. The instructor was an American and she talked me into sitting for the ACE Group Instructor cert. After months of studying after returning home, I passed the test. It only took about two weeks until I landed a job at Crunch as an instructor. I fell in love with it immediately. Cheering them on, pushing them to do just one more rep because they can, watching everyone grow with each passing class, its amazing. After working there for eight months, I sat for the NASM CPT exam and aced it! Now I get to teach classes and train clients everyday.
I still have so much to learn and I love that my knowledge of fitness will never come to a halt. Things are always changing and new modailities are constantly being invented. Its a great feeling to know exactly what I want to do. Now, if only I could combine my two favorite things..
