Celia Alvarez

Celia Marrero-Alvarez started taking Zumba classes in 2009. Not long after that she began assisting her instructor in leading the classes. She became a licensed ZUMBA Instructor in August 2011, and has been teaching ZUMBA classes ever since. She is licensed in Basic Zumba, Zumba Kids and Kids Jr., Zumba Gold, Zumba Toning, Zumba Sentao and Aqua Zumba.

When she's not shaking it at Zumba, Celia is relaxing and engaging her in her chi while practicing yoga. As she started taking classes in college, she began to grow and appreciate the beauty of yoga and its benefits.  Celia trained to become a yoga instructor for both adults and children and actively teaches classes every week. She believes in it benefits of this practice immensely and is a strong believer in the practice of Yoga.  After many years of Yoga practice, she became certified in Children's Yoga, and then shortly went on to complete her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training for adults.

Celia is a long time resident of New Jersey, and has native background from Cuba. She has been dancing since she was a little girl, and found a way of incorporating her passion for dance with the need to exercise.   Zumba has been a way of both burning calories as well as expressing her native roots through movement.

Celia received her Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice at Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2002 and her Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice at Rutgers University in 2005. She is currently working as a Paralegal at law firm when she isn’t Zumba-ing it up.  

She has led ZUMBATHON charity events for breast cancer research and awareness, as well as other local fundraisers. Celia is part of a yearly "Party in Pink" for Breast Cancer Awareness every October.

Celia is married and a mother of two beautiful boys.
