Alex Shek

Alex Shek is the Founder and Director of C.O.R.E. Tennis. C.O.R.E. Tennis provides athletes an opportunity to become better tennis players in a competitive, positive, and energetic environment. We believe that confidence, optimism, relationships, and energy are the cornerstones of a first-class tennis program. We take pride in developing young people in all aspects of life using tennis as a vehicle for personal development. We believe that the secret to SUCCESS is preparation, hard work, and learning from failure. Nelson Mandela once said "Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to unite in a way that little else does. It speaks to youth in a language they understand. Sport can create hope where once there was only despair." At C.O.R.E. Tennis we believe in making a difference in our communities and cities through athletics and activity.

Tennis is a "sport of a lifetime". It is a game that you can actively play for your whole life. Whether you want to play professionally or at a collegiate level, climb your high school team rankings, play tournaments, compete at your local club, or just learn the game; we have programs that will give you a chance to achieve those goals, have fun, and enjoy tennis forever!

C.O.R.E. Tennis has over 8 years of experience in running tennis programs. Alex has been coaching tennis in the DC Metropolitan area for eight years. He began teaching tennis and supervising summer junior camps at Tennistar Academy in Bethesda, Maryland. He then continued teaching at 4star Academy the Mid-Atlantic Regions most prominent and recognized tennis facility. In 2009 season Alex was Director of Adult Programs at nearby Tuckahoe Recreation Club and coached both junior and adult tennis teams. In addition, Alex is now in his third season as the Assistant Head Coach of the McLean High School Varsity Girls Tennis Team. Coach Alex helped the McLean Girls tennis team to one their most successful seasons in the history of MHS tennis. They posted a 16-3 record winning the Liberty District championship, Northern Region title and placing 2nd in the state of Virginia. Coach Alex is a certified USPTA professional.

Alex has a strong passion for the game of tennis and enjoys contributing to the development of his students. His teaching philosophy is to develop a player's technique, speed, conditioning, strategy and confidence.
