John Poske

Born in Parkersburg WV 1954. Raised in Vienna WV along with two bothers and a sister. Have been playing competitive tennis since I was 8 years old. Competed in USTA tournaments in all age divisions. Attaining state, sectional and national rankings. Played College tennis at West Liberty University. Won two conference championships and competed in two NAIA National Championship tournaments. Started teaching tennis when I was 15 years old in the junior program in Vienna, WV. Also competed in state, regional and national table tennis tournaments. Taught tennis through out my college years at tennis camps, clubs and private courts. Coached the men's College team my first year after competing. Took my first full time tennis teaching position at The Pittsburgh Golf Club in 1977 and have been on the court since then. I have had the opportunity to coach all level of players from beginners to touring professional. I have coached over a dozen juniors who have received full college tennis scholarships. I still compete in local USTA tournaments and leagues at the 4.5 level. I won the National Father/Daughter Clay Courts with my daughter Sierra.

i have been married to Vera Birdsong Poske for 31 years. We have two children, who both played tennis, Connor and Sierra. Connor is a software engineer and Sierra is completing her masters at the UVM.

My hobbies are hiking, yoga (stretching) and reading.
