Idrienne Steiman

I have been teaching The Pilates Method for 28 years, both the mat work and the equipment. I was the first teacher trainer in Indianapolis through the PhysicalMind Institute.

I started taking ballet classes when I was eight years old and never stopped being involved with the Art of Movement.  My training as a dancer in New York City was rigourous.  I was on the professional track having studied at The Joffrey Ballet School and The Juilliard School.  I performed and choreographed through out the beginning of my career.  I remember the original Pilates Studio - there was only one and it was the place dancers went to when they were injured.  I was glad I wasn't injured yet did go to the original studio since I had a friend that was an assistant teacher.    I never dreamt at that time that I would end up teaching Pilates.  I was also introduced to Yoga at a very young age and continue to take Yoga classes today.

I pursued my Masters at UCLA so that I could teach in a good dance department on the college level.  I became very interested in the Laban material and in Pilates plus the Alexander Technique.  I explored many different body therapies.  So when I opened the first Pilates Studio in Indianapolis, I named it The Integrated Body since I am not only a Pilates Teacher but have many complementary skills that enhance my Pilates instruction.  I can work with any age group, with very fit people, with very unfit people.  I have worked with people with disabilities, with serious illnesses and I have worked with top notch athletes from the Pacers and the Colts.   I really have a rich background and wonderful experiences on my journey of bringing awareness, balance and overall well being to my clients.

I have taught abroad in Italy at The Pilates Marathon for three summers.  I also guest taught in Santa Fe, New Mexico.   I enjoy working with new people and that is why when I heard of this website, it appealed to me vey much.  In two weeks, I will be teaching in Israel at a Dance Kibbutz.  I am always ready for new adventures and to teach the wonderful Pilates Method which keeps me looking 10 years younger and keeps me both flexible and strong.

I am currently teaching Pilates Mat classes at The Gregory Hancock Dance Academy with pre professional dancers.
